Statement of Purpose

Synthesis Essay

Purpose: By communicating I hope to be able to share my story of how by changing someone’s perspective to see how their environment shapes who they are. They can then come to control this environment which in turn allows them to control what they experience. Often this is called ontological design.I hope the audience will feel compelled to think more deeply about their surroundings and realize the importance of the environment they choose to dwell in and the people they choose to surround themselves with. By making this realization people can come to associate how where they dwell and what enters their mind shapes certain aspect about them, and by being aware of this, they can change this input stimuli which in turn changes themselves.

Audience: The intended audience are people who are looking to change something about their life. They know that something needs to change however they aren’t quite sure how to do it. By changing their mindset and the input that goes into their mind, this might prove to be a method of self-betterment for them.

Context:The communication is taking place because it is a response to an assignment about synthesis. I am synthesizing a number of sources that led to me having an epiphany relating to how external stimuli has an effect on who we are.

Strategies: I hope to develop ethos by using strong sources that cite data in their own analysis. The information I am writing my paper from, is a series of short videos were a modern day philosopher quickly explores a series of ideas. These ideas he cites within the video and allows one to dig deeper into the subject if they so desired to.I plan to develop my logos by having sound reason in my argument. I plan to use air-tight reasoning and sound example to illustrate that our perceptions and what we experience ultimately shapes us into who we are.

Medium: For the medium I am planning on using Microsoft Word as Word is the word processor I am most familiar with. One of my sources are visual as it is a YouTube video, however I am not planning on integrating it into the paper via URL link or something of the sorts. Currently I am planning on simply citing the source

Arrangement: I plan to start out by explaining a background story of the issues I am dealing with then show how the first experience I had influenced me finding my first source with then lead my to finding a second source. These source materials were the things that caused me to have my epiphany and I plan to synthesis them together as I introduce them together. I plan by ending the paper explaining what the ramifications of this epiphany was and how I plan to move forward.

Researched Argument Synthesis

Purpose: The purpose of this researched argument synthesis paper is to make people aware of climate change and help them understand the mechanics behind climate change. By doing this they'll understand what the scientists are saying when they warn of climate change and they'll have a fundamental understanding of how it works which will in turn make them more likely to believe that its an issue because they'll understand how it work and the logic behind it.

Audience: The audience for this particular paper are people who may know what climate change is, but do not really know what it is all about or how it works. I want to show people that climate change is an issue by explaining the mechanics behind it. If they don't deem climate change is an issue worthy of intervention, at least they'll understand how it works and it'll make them better equipped when discussing climate change in the future.

Context: The context of this paper is that we live in a world where climate change is slowly starting to manifest negative impacts, yet people aren't exactly sure what to make of climate change. By explaining it better, they the general public will be a little bit smarter and able to make a more informed opinion.

Strategies: My paper approaches the issue with the assumption that people are rational and generally they have a logical reason of why they believe something. This paper simply presents the data to the people for them to make there own assumptions. There is bias in this paper of course but hopefully the data speaks for itself to the reader.

Medium: The medium for this paper is a roughly 2500 word, word document in APA style. The reasoning for APA style is this is what the styling will typically be when doing anything related to research, and this style is what I'll be using in the future as a future physicist. To me 2500 words sounded like a lot. Once the paper was said and done it was roughly 13 pages long, which again sounds like a lot, but this is typically do to having to format the paper a certain way. When reading the research paper, the 2500 words I used to write it, tended to only scratched the surface of the issue.

Arrangement:  I start by talking about how greenhouse gasses are responsible for trapping in excess amounts of sunlight and heat energy, I explain how this heat energy warms up the oceans, and from there explain what a world with warmer oceans will do to the atmosphere, agriculture, and peoples lives.
